Author's POV,
Vyan sat in his dimly lit room, the air thick with the scent of whiskey and cigarette smoke. The only illumination came from the flickering light bulb hanging from the ceiling and the soft glow of a large poster pinned to the wall opposite to his bed.
He learned back in his chair, swirling his drink. His lips curled into a cruel smile as he stared at the image.
"The mighty Avyay Rathore" he muttered, his tone laced with venom.
"You came here looking for me.Fikar not, even I was waiting for you."
He said to himself,"That girl will have to be trapped soon. I will have to convince her somehow to run away and marry her."
He had spent weeks collecting information, watching from the shadows. It wasn't just about the 43 crores, he'd stolen from his company- it was about taking everything from him, piece by piece.
Next morning
Avni balanced a tiffin carrier in her hand as she stepped into the grand mansion, it's towering walls and ornate decor overwhelming her. She had never seen a place so opulent.
Her grandfather had called earlier, asking her to bring food for the workers and the owner, as he was caught up in the factory.
"It's a busy day, Avni. Just drop off the food at the mansion." He had said.
"Got it" she had replied cheerfully unaware that the "mansion" belonged to none other than Avyay.
Now, as she went through the vast estate, she murmured to herself, " Why did Aata tell me it was big? I'll get lost in here before I find anyone!"
Clutching the tiffing tightly, she turned to the corner and slammed right into something solid or rather someone.
She stumbled back with a gasp, the tiffin almost slipping from her grasp. She looked up and froze.
There, standing before her, was him, shirtless and glistening with sweat from his workout. His broad shoulders and chiseled torso would have been intimidating enough but the piercing look in his eyes rendered her completely speechless.
He was equally stunned, stared down at her. Recognition flickered in his sharp eyes.
The scooty girl.
"You again?" He stared, his brows furrowing in recognition.
Avni, despite the heat rushed to her cheeks, squared her shoulders and met his gaze. " Yes me again. Do you always walk around half-naked in the middle of the day?"
For a moment, he was too stunned to respond. He wasn't used to people, especially women speaking to him.
"This is my house." He said evenly crossing his arms over his chest.
"Exactly! So, why not keep a shirt on in case unsuspecting guests like me show up and get the shock of their life?" She shoots back, her tone playful but firm.
A flicker of amusement crossed his face, though he quickly masked it. "If I recall correctly, you're here unannounced. What are you doing in my house?"
She held up the tiffin, "Delivering food for my grandfather. He works here, as you probably know."
He gaze shifted briefly to the tiffin, then back to her," So you decided to wander around here instead of asking for directions?"
She arched an eyebrow,"I was trying to find the kitchen not my fault this place is bigger than a mall."
For the first time in years, he felt something.... unusual. "Follow me" he said curtly, turning to lead her to the kitchen.
Avyay gestured towards the counter," Leave it here."
She sat the tiffin down with exaggerated care, then turned to face him,"There, mission accomplished. Anything else."
He leaned casually against the counter one eyebrow raised," You always like this or is it only with me?"
She folded her arms, meeting his gaze head-on," No but someone has to say what everyone else is too scared to."
Before he would retort, a familiar voice broke the tension.
"Boss?"
Both of them turned to see Tanish standing in the doorway, his eyes darted between Avni and Avyay. His expression was a mix of surprise and something akin to suppressed laughter.
"Am I interrupting something?" Tanish asked, his tone careful but a hint of teasing.
"No" Avyay said immediately, his voice sharp.
Tanish's lips twitched but he quickly composed himself," I assume you're here for your grandfather."
"Yes" she said, lifting her chin," I was just leaving after being.......greeted by Mr Rathore here."
"Greeted?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"She means she ran into me." Avyay said coolly.
"Right" Tanish said enjoying the dynamics between them, " Well, thank you for bringing the food. I'll make sure it's taken care of."
She nodded, shooting Avyay one last glance. " Do you have anything else to say, ma'am? Avyay asked.
"Next time, maybe try wearing a shirt. It's less distracting."
"I'll keep that in mind." His eyes narrowed slightly.
Tanish choked in a laugh. Avyay straighten his expression unreadable," Tell your grandfather to take a break from the factory. He works harder than he should."
She smiled, her usual return," I will. Thanks for caring."
Saying this, she strode out of the kitchen.
His gaze lingers on the door.
"Get back to work." He said curtly but his tone lacked its usual bite.
As Tanish left the kitchen, he couldn't help but smile. She seems to be the perfect storm for someone as stoic as him.
After the scooty incident, Tanish didn't expect to see Taru again. But of course, life had other plans.
A few days later, Tanish was at a small cafe in Assam, finishing up some work on his laptop. He was trying to enjoy a brief break when the door slammed open and walked none other than Taru, wearing a colourful dress and a huge smile. She was with Avni, who waves at him from across the room.
Tanish sighed inwardly, of course.
Taru immediately spotted him and headed straight over, her grin widening,"Well, well, if it isn't Mr, the man of the hours. You never told me you were into coffee shops, too. By the way what's your name?"
He didn't look up from his laptop," I am here for work. Not exactly here for entertainment."
"Well you should try sometime." She said as she sat down next to him without waiting for an invitation m. "Life isn't all spreadsheets and emails, you know."
"Does that mean you don't work?" He asked, trying to keep the conversation as neutral as possible.
She shrugged her playful demeanor never faltering,"I work.....in my own way. But I also know how to enjoy the little things."
He looked at her now, eyes narrowing,"Is that supposed to be some kind of life lesson?"
She raised an eyebrow,"If you need it to be. Honestly I don't know how you manage to be so....uptight all the time."
Before he could respond, Avni walked over and joined the conversation,"You two met, huh?? Taru, I told you Tanish is a serious guy."
"Oh I know." Taru said." I am just trying to make him a little more fun."
As Tanish tried to respond, his phone buzzed, signaling a call from Avyay. With a quick excuse, he stood up, leaving both the girls laughing at the table.
After the call, he returned and gave a glare to Taru. Avni, noticing the growing tension, said with a smile," You need a bit of bonding time."
Before he could respond, Taru launched into a full tirade,"Bonding time? Do you hear that Mr?"
"I don't need chaos. You are enough chaos for ten people." Tanish shot back, his patience quickly wearing thin.
"You know what I think? You're like a robot with no soul. No life." She snorted.
"I'm....
Just then, the door opened again and in walked none other than Avyay. Dressed in his usual suit, with a look of calm authority about him. He entered the cafe with the kind of presence that demanded attention. His eyes, immediately landed on the group and his gaze narrowed when he saw Tanish and Taru practically at each other's throats.
"Ah, I see we're having a discussion." He said, his voice was cold but carrying the air of authority.
Tanish, sensing his boss's looming presence straightened up, but Taru, ever the rebel didn't back down."Oh Mr Rathore just the person I needed to see. Your assistant here is so boring."
"I am not boring." Tanish muttered looking like he was about to burst.
Avyay's gaze shifted to Taru,"And you were, what? Hamesa ki tarah chudail?"
Taru getting annoyed,"Someone has to shake things up."
Avyay pinched the bridge of his nose, clearly regretting coming into the cafe. Avni, sensing the mounting tension, decided to intervene before it escalated further. "Enough, both of you" She snapped.
"Tanish, stop being so serious and Taru, stop teasing him all the time."
They both fell silent for a moment but the tension was palpable. Avyay's still standing at the door, finally spoke again,"Avni's right. Both of you need to get a grip. I'm not going to sit here and watch you turn this café into a circus."
Tanish asked,"Sir, why are you acting like a parent to us?"
She added,"My parents would never call me 'chudail'."
"Because someone has to keep the circus under control. And probably your parents haven't seen you in action." He said dryly.
Taru said," Okay okay. I'll go. But don't think I'm done with you, Mister."
Avni and Avyay sighed and looked at each other, clearly exhausted by the whole ordeal.
Both of them went. Leaving the two men alone.
